Higgins James Bown of Braishfield, Hampshire worked in wood. He was a wheelwright, a carpenter, a chairmaker and an undertaker. His father was James Higgins Bown who came to Braishfield from Sparkford, Somerset. H. J. Bown died in July 1954 aged 88 years.

 

The collection consists of 180 woodworking tools used by H. J. Bown in his wheelwright’s shop.
